The calendar is now set for summer staff development to earn a comp day before Thanksgiving break. Teachers who attend all three training sessions will receive their comp day as well as earn 12 CEU (Continuing Education Unit) hours for the 2008/09 school year.

Another option is to attend one session and earn a comp day, but the comp day will not apply towards teachers’ CEU’s.

Teachers should visit the Sunnyvale ISD web site at www.sunnyvaleisd.com to sign up now as sessions are filling up fast. “Space, like a killer wave, is very limited. First come, first surf!”

Each all-day session is split into morning and afternoon classes that flip after one hour for lunch.

Session One is July 10th or July 17th.

July 10th: Half the day is Atomic Learning in MS Room 208 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Instructors are Becky Fisher and Suzanne Valenta. The other half day is Mac Nuts and Bolts in MS Room 108 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Instructors are Brian Mayberry and Sherry Woods.

July 17th: This class is almost full! Only one more seat is available. This session follows the same schedule, time, instructors and locations as the July 10th classes.

Session Two is July 22nd or July 29th, however the July 22nd class is already full.

July 29th: Half the day is Web-training in MS Room 108 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Instructors are Brian Mayberry and Sherry Woods. The other half day is Nettrekker in MS Room 208 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Instructors are Becky Fisher and Suzanne Valenta.

Session Three is August 7th or August 12th. The August 7th class is almost full (only two seats available)!

Both August sessions: Photos, Movies and Other Presentations in EL Room 304 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Instructors are Becky Fisher and Suzanne Valenta. Note that these are all day classes with one hour for lunch and follow the same format and meeting locale and are taught by the same instructors.

SISD presents the annual Summit Awards

On May 29, students, faculty and parents gathered in the Sunnyvale Middle School cafetorium to honor recipients of the Summit Award.

Mr. Kyle Kelley, Minister to Students at First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale, gave the keynote address. Recipients of the Summit Award are students who are nominated by a faculty member and recognized for having strong character and exemplifying the awards’ qualifications.

The qualifications are Steadfastness, Understanding, Motivation, Mercy, Integrity, and Tenacity.
